Court slaps life imprisonment on Keshava Shetty murder accused

Mangaluru: The Fourth Additional and Sessions Court has sentenced four men to rigorous life imprisonment in connection with the murder of Keshava Shetty in the year 2015.

The convicted are Sathish(33) alias Sachhu, Lithish(27) alias Lithu, Shobharaj(27) resident of Madhya, Yuvaraj(26) alias Appu.

The court has awarded six months imprisonment to Bharath for destroying the evidence in the case. One more accused in the case is said to be a juvenile.

It may be recalled that the convict Sathish had demanded for loan with Keshava Shetty. But Keshava Shetty denied giving him loan. An angered Sathish threatened Keshava Shetty for not providing him loan where after the latter filed a police complaint at Surthkal Police Station. On the basis of the complaint, the Police arrested Sathish.

Sathish along with other convicts, including the juvenile had hatched a plan to murder Keshava Shetty. The gang managed to murder him by hacking him to death on January 6, 2015 morningnear Boorukatte Maidan in Kuthethoor after two failed attempts on January 4 and 5, 2015.

The accused after executing the crime accused had made phone call to Bharath to confirm the death. Bharath who went to the spot, escaped with the bike, left over by the accused after committing the murder. The case was registered in Surthkal police station.
The court has examined 30 witness and 42 evidences in the case.

Fourth Additional and Sessions Court judge Nerale Veerabhadrayya Bhavani convicted the accused under IPC section 143 (unlawful assembly), three months imprisionment, 147(riotoiong)one year imprisonment, 148 (rioting armed with deadly weapons) one year imprisionment, 302 (murder) life imprisonment, 502 (criminal intimidation) two years imprisionment

All the five accused should pay fine Rs 5000 each, in default to pay the fine three months imprisonment. Out of fine amount paid by the accused, a sum of Rs 10000 will be defrayed to the state and remaining amount will be paid to the mother of the deceased.

Surthkal Police Incpector MA Nataraj filed charge sheet to the court. Harishchandra Udyavara was the public prosecutor in the case.
