Court convicts two for assault

Mangaluru: Principal and Sessions Court, on Saturday, May 27 convicted two persons accused of assaulting a Someshwara resident in 2017.

The convicted, Gururaj(25) and Bapist(22) are residents of Someshwara. The court in its order awarded 26 days imprisonment and a fine of Rs 10000 to the accused. In case of failure to pay the fine, the accused will have to undergo three month simple imprisonment. Half of the fine amount would be given to the victim as compensation.

On 12 January 2017, Gururaj and Bapist arrived on a bike and assaulted Mohammed Iqbal, who was conversing with a friend named Mansoor at Paribail, Someshwara. When Mohammed Iqbal raised an alarm, accused fled the spot. Later, Iqbal was admitted to a private hospital.

Then police inspector Rajendra had filed charge-sheet to the court after investigating the case.

Pushparaj Adyanthaya was the Public Prosecutor for the case.
