Mangaluru: The Principal District and Sessions Court convicted a 41-year-old man, who killed his father over a property dispute at Karingana in Hosabettu of Mangaluru taluk.
The convicted has been identified as Dolphy Goveas, a resident of Ajekaru in Karkala taluk. According to the chargesheet filed at the court, there was some property dispute between Dolphy Govias and his father Paul Govias (83). Though Dolphy was living separately, there were frequent quarrels between the father and son. A quarrel erupted and heated arguments exchanged were them when Dolphy had been to Karingana on April 14, 2017. Enraged over the arguments, Dolphy strangulated his father to death and assaulted his brother Stany Govias (54), when he tried to prevent the quarrel. Before fled from the scene, Dolphy damaged the CCTV camera, installed at the house.
After the incident, Moodbidri police inspector Ramachandra Nayak filed a chargesheet against Dolphy under IPC Section 302 (Punishment for murder), 307 (Attempt to murder), 201 (Causing disappearance of evidence of offense), 427 (mischief causing damage) and 447 (Punishment for criminal trespass).
When the case came for hearing at Principal District and Sessions Court, Judge Kadluru Sathyanarayana Acharya upheld the arguments of special public prosecutor Pushparaj Adyanthaya and convicted the accused. However, the quantum of the punishment will be declared on Thursday, October 11, sources said.
