Karkala: The District Principal and Sessions Court on March 14, ordered the acquittal of Shivamogga Devendra, an accused in the Naxal encounter case that took place in Idu village.

Hajima and Parvati were killed in the police firing then, and the incident had sent shock waves across the state. Few policemen were also injured in the encounter that took place in the year 2009.

The High Court had granted conditional bail to Devendra 7 months ago, after he spent almost 8 years in judicial custody. Devendra was present in the court when judge delivered the order.

“Justice has finally prevailed. I was arrested and jailed though I was not linked to the incident. Unfortunately, I ended up spending 8 years in prison for no fault of mine”, said a relieved Devendra talking to media on the verdict.
