Corporator Vinayaraj bats for withdrawal of ‘unscientific’ bicycle lane project

Mangaluru: Corporator Vinayaraj, opposition leader at Mangaluru City Corporation has requested to withdraw the proposed bicycle lane project under Smart City citing it to be unscientific.

Speaking to media persons here on Monday, July 12, he said, “Rs 8 crore has been released for a 12 km long bicycle lane under the project. However, the routes identified passes through commercial centres, wherein the roads are dig up without planning at present.” Money is being spent without planning and MLA Vedavyas Kamath is make money out of this unscientific project, alleged Vinayaraj.

Vinayaraj said, “let a systematic bicycle path be built as that of Bengaluru for cycle lane planned to construct here will make the existing roads narrower. Moreover, the tender has been given to inexperienced and the whole projects wreaks corruption. “Congress will not let taxpayers’ money to be looted and hence letters to Chief Secretary, Directorate of Urban Land Transport and Managing Director of Smart City project has been sent requesting project’s withdrawal, he added.
