Corona Virus testing labs to come up in all dist centres across state: Sriramulu

Mangaluru: Health Minister B Sriramulu asked the surveillance team of  Dakshina Kannada district to find out those who have travelled along with a person from Kasargod, who was tested positive for COVID-19.

Minister Sriramulu convened a meeting at Deputy Commissioner’s office on Tuesday, March 17 and asked the officials to take all precautionary measures to prevent the spread of coronavirus.

“A person, native of Kasargod district who travelled from Dubai to Mangaluru by Air India Express on March 14 has been tested positive for COVID-19. Hence, the surveillance team of Dakshina Kannada district, along with the surveillance team of Kasargod district should work together to find out those who travelled along with him in the flight. After, finding them,  they should be scanned to ensure that they have not been infected,” Sriramulu instructed.

Minister warned of taking stringent action against those medicals stores which sell masks at unrealistic prices. He also informed that the health department has enough masks and the necessary equipment to treat the patients who are infected by the coronavirus.

Testing lab to come up in Mangaluru soon

Sriramulu informed about the proposal of setting up a testing lab at Mangaluru soon. ” As there is no testing lab for COVID-19 in Mangaluru, samples are being sent to other places. To avoid this, there is a proposal of setting a testing lab in Mangaluru and it will be materialised soon. There is also a proposal to set such testing labs in all district centres in the state, ” Sriramulu added.

Meanwhile, Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Roopa M J informed about the precautionary measures taken at Mangaluru International Airport (MIA) and New Mangalore Port Trust (NMPT). She said, ” a total of 29,053 air passengers were screened at MIA and 5,543 passengers were screened at NMPT so far. Blood samples of 46 persons have been sent for the test, out of which blood samples of 36 persons have already been tested negative. The result of the remaining 10 persons is yet to come.”

Religious rituals should be done in a simple manner

Meanwhile. ADC Roopa informed that circular has been issued to all religious centres to ensure all religious rituals are held low profile. ” Religious rituals should be done in a simple manner, avoiding mass gathering,” she added.

MLA U T Khader, Deputy Commissioner Sindhu B Rupesh, Zilla Panchayat Chief Executive Officer Dr Selvamani R and others were present.
