Cops arrest 11 people in two separate cases of dacoity, kidnap, attempt to murder

Mangaluru: In a coordinated operation, Moodbidri police and the city crime division arrested 11 people for dacoity, kidnapping, conspiracy to kidnap, and attempt to murder.

The police informed that “In the first week of May, Mumbai’s Rehman Sheikh gave gold to Waqar Younis, who then handed it over to Bengaluru’s Hyder Ali. Waqar’s friend Mahaz, a resident of Belvai, had invited Waqar to come to Belvai while he was transporting gold to Bengaluru. Mahaz and Aadil of Uppala and two others, after meeting Waqar at Pacche Mogaru in Moodbidri, kidnapped Waqar and took him to Uppala in Kerala and looted 440-gram gold given by Rehman. Later, they abandoned Waqar in Uppala. When Rehman and Hyder inquired about the gold given to him, Waqar informed that the gold was looted by Mahaz and others. Rehman and Hyder demanded Waqar to return the gold. After Waqar received threat calls over the phone and at his residence from Pattodi Salam, he filed a case at Moodbidri police station on May 21.

Mohammed Mahaz (20), a resident of Kariyangadi, Belvai, Moodbidri, and Mohammed Aadil (25), a resident of Munigunda, Uppala, Kasargod, were arrested in this connection. A jewellery shop was raided by the police, and 300 grams of gold worth Rs 13,86,600 was seized.

Rehman had handed a Rs 5 lac contract to rogue sheeter Pattodi Salam to reclaim the gold from Waqar and Mahaz and, if they failed to do so, to abduct and kill them. Acting on a tip, Pattodi Salam, his brother and Rehman’s brother Abdul Sheik,  Hyder Ali, and seven others conspired to carry out the crime with lethal weapons provided by Pattodi Salam in two cars near the Mahaz’s residence, police arrested them.

The police have seized a Maruti Swift car, Innova car, lethal weapons, and 10 mobile phones.

The other arrested are Abdul Salam alias Pattodi Salam (34) from Jokatte, Mohammed Sharukh (26) from Jokatte, Thokur, Syed Hyder Ali (29) from JHBCS layout, JP Nagar Bengaluru; Asif Ali (28) from Yellechenhalli, JP Nagar, Bengaluru; Abdul Sheik (22) from Bunder, Mangaluru; Shabbas Hussain (49) from Kambekar street, Mumbai; Mushahid Ansari (38) from Bivandi, Thane, Mumbai; Sheik Sajid Hussain (49) from Kambekar street, Mumbai; and Mustaq Kureshi (42) from Mohammed Ali Road, Kambekar street, Mumbai.

Police commissioner N Shashi Kumar, DCPs Hariramshankar and Vinay Gaonkar, Mangaluru North ACP S Mahesh Kumar, CCB Inspector Mahesh Prasad, PSI Rajendra B, Moodbidri police station PSI Sudeep, and other officers led the operation to arrest the accused.
