Mangaluru: A delegation of the Dakshina Kannada District Congress, headed by former state minister B Ramanath Rai, met district Deputy Commissioner Sindhu B Rupesh and demanded that appropriate measures be taken to ensure that essential commodities are not sold at exhorbitant prices during the lockdown.
Pointing out to the price hike of essential commodities in the district during the ongoing lockdown, the delegation urged the district administration to ensure that all essential commodities are available to the public at normal rates. Ration items should be provided to the public through the government only, the delegation insisted.
Meanwhile, members of the delegation lauded the preventive measures taken by the district administration in containing the spread of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19). “Stringent action should also be taken against those who violate the lockdown guidelines. The loopholes of the district Wenlock Hospital in treating the COVID-19 patients should be set right immediately,” the delegation stressed.
MLCs Hareesh Kumar, Ivan D’Souza, MLA U T Khader, former MLA J R Lobo, Mohiuddin Bava, district youth Congress president Mithun Rai and others were part of the delegation.
