Conservation of nature is everyone’s responsibility: MLA Vedavyas Kamath

Mangaluru: Mangaluru South MLA D Vedavyas Kamath on Saturday, June 20, said that conserving nature is everyone’s responsibility and one should take it as an important duty.

Kamath was addressing a gathering after inaugurating the ‘Vanamahotsava’ programme organised jointly by the Dakshina Kannada district Working Journalists Association and Forest Department at the Patrika Bhavan. “As per the guidelines, urban areas should have 22 per cent green cover. However, Mangaluru city has only 14 per cent green cover and some other cities have less than 2.3 per cent green cover,” he said.

Meanwhile, Kamath said that three junctions, including Ladyhill and Agnes College, will be developed and made into school zones.

Horticulture Department Deputy Director H R Naik said that while there won’t be any issues that if there is more oxygen and nitrogen. “If there is more discharge of carbon dioxide, then the temperature will increase and cause an adverse impact on nature,” he said.

Mangaluru Zone Forest Officer Sridhar asked the people to utilise the various schemes of the forest department which has been giving supportive prices for increasing green cover.

Journalists association president Srinivas Nayak Indaje welcomed the gathering and senior journalist R C Bhat proposed a vote of thanks. Executive committee member Vijay Kotian Padu compered the programme.
