Mangaluru: Mangaluru South MLA D Vedavyas Kamath said, on Friday, November 8, that the Congress party has no moral right to seek the public’s votes as most of their assurances made in their previous election manifesto, have not been met so far.

Speaking to reporters here, Kamath said that even though the Congress had promised to provide round-the-clock drinking water supply, the residents of many wards have seen problems in the drinking water supply. As many as 18 wards of the Mangaluru South Assembly Constituency faced this issue,” he claimed.

Kamath also alleged that the property tax was hiked four times during the rule of the Congress in the MCC. As it was unable to collect property taxes properly, and a huge amount is still due from many people, it is a big loss to the MCC. The promises made in the previous election manifesto, like a cable-free city, IT city, development of the Thumbe vented etc. have not materialised. As the Congress was unable to provide the basic requisites to the people, it has no moral right to seek the support of the public again,” he said.

Meanwhile, Kamath rubbished the allegations of former MLA J R Lobo, saying that the BJP leaders never obstructed the provision of houses to the poor people in Shakthingar. “Before identifying land for constructing a residential complex for the poor people, former MLA J R Lobo did not secure clearance from the forest department. The project was stalled because the land is a deemed forest, not because of the obstruction of BJP leaders,” he clarified.

BJP leaders Bhaskarchandra Shetty, Prabha Malini, Jithendra Kottary and Sanjay Prabhu were present.
