Mangaluru: The Vijaya Bank Ulisi Horata Samiti on Friday, February 8 announced that a condemnation meeting would be held by inviting all the elected representatives, on the proposed merger of the Vijaya Bank with the Bank of Baroda, on February 20.

Horata Samiti President Dinesh Hegde Ulepady informed that the venue of the meeting was yet to be decided. ” We will invite the elected representatives from the Gram Panchayat level to Member of the Parliament. Our intention is to make them unite for a single cause of opposing the merger of Vijaya Bank with the Bank of Baroda. After taking the signature of all the elected representatives, we will mount pressure on the union government to withdraw the cabinet decision of merging Vijaya Bank with Bank of Baroda”, he said.

“The decision of merging the banks was taken hastily and secretly. Vijaya Bank has given employment opportunities to thousands of people, residing in the coastal region and merging a profitable bank with another bank, which was incurring a loss is not acceptable. A public interest litigation has also been filed in this regard at the High Court which will come for hearing on February 13”, he said.
