Mangaluru: The Dakshina Kannada Packaged Drinking Water Manufacturers Association on Monday, submitted a memorandum to the district administration, alleging that there are 30 illegal water manufacturing companies selling packaged drinking water without clearance from the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI).
The delegation has sought action against these illegal water packaging companies.
Convener of the association, Shashidhar Bhat said that there are only 18 drinking water plants that are functioning with all the necessary clearances from the ISI and FSSAI, but there are nearly 30 units in the district are operating illegally. They have no valid licenses and do not adhere to hygiene standards, he alleged.
“As they don’t have to pay statutory fees and or follow strict standards, they dumping their products in the market at a lesser price that we cannot afford to sell our products at, due to our actual cost of production being high,” he added.
The DKPDWMA requested the district administration to look into the matter and take action against illegal units that are operating in the Dakshina Kannada district.
