Mangaluru: A delegation, led by Anti Tollgate Action Committee, submitted a memorandum to National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) project director, urging not to renew the permit for the tollgate operating near NITK Suratkal.
The permit to collect toll near NITK Suratkal ends on November 15 and the delegation has submitted this memorandum, urging the project director Shishu Mohan not to renew the same under any circumstances and also to remove the tollgate.
The delegation also insisted that the NHAI fill the potholes and repair the stretch between Suratkal and Nanthoor and construct a new bridge at Kuloor across the Phalguni river.
It can be noted that the Anti Tollgate Action Committee had organised an 11-day long massive protest urging that the tollgate either be shut down or be merged with the one at Hejamady. Despite promises made by the officials of the NHAI and elected representatives to shut down the tollgate, no measures have been taken by them so far.
The delegation included Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) state president and committee convener Muneer Katipalla, former MLA Vijay Kumar Shetty and other leaders like Bharath Shetty Kulai, Gangadhar Bhanjan, Santhosh Bajal, Nithin Bangera, Ajmal Ahmed, Janardhan Salian and others.
