Mangaluru: With the objective of eradicating the drug menace and to prevent students from falling prey to the same, the Dakshina Kannada district unit of the All-College Students Union has launched an anti-drugs campaign here on Saturday, November 23.

Through this campaign, the union will organise various awareness programmes on drug menace at different colleges in the district within the next three months.

Releasing the poster of the campaign, state legal counsel of the students’ union Dinakar Shetty said that all the colleges should conduct medical checks of the students before enrolling them. If any student is found to be addicted to ganja or any other type of drugs, they should undergo counselling. Every college should set up counselling centres to change the mind-set of the students who are addicted to drugs, he said.

Shetty said that drug peddlers are targeting college students which is why they fall prey to the drug menace. “In order to prevent this, drug peddlers should be booked under the Goonda Act. If the police department takes this issue seriously, the drug menace can definitely be curtailed,” he said.

Students’ Union leaders Thushar Kadri, Bhavish Shetty, Ibrahim Bathish, Vikesh Bangera and others were present.
