Mangaluru: The Coast Guards secure our nation’s coastal borders from the enemies. We rarely get to see their hard work and dedication. However, on April 26, the elderly inmates of Vathsalyadham got to see the softer and kinder side of these defenders of our borders.
The Coast Guard Karnataka team along with the members of Tatrakshika, a self-help group of Indian Coast Guard Wives Welfare Association, visited Vathsalyadham Old Age Home, Mangalore on Thursday.
The team donated ration, food, fruits, clothes, slippers and toiletries to the 40 elderly inmates of Vathsalyadham in the presence of Shreenath Hegde, the caretaker of the home. More importantly, the visitors shared a feeling of bonding, affection and care to the lonely inmates who are staying away from their families. The elderly inmates were touched by the caring attitude of the Coast Guard team.
Speaking on the occasion, Deputy Inspector General S S Dasila, TM, the Commander of Coast Guard Karnataka said, “Who says that childhood doesn’t return? If one sits near his mother, childhood is felt again. The elderly remind us of our parents.” The Commander also called upon the team to continue such humane activities in the future.
