Mangaluru: Asiad gold medalist of the 4×400 m relay team, M R Poovamma was felicitated by Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy on Thursday, September 7 in the Dakshina Kannada Zilla Panchayat meeting hall.
She was handed over a cheque of Rs 25 Lakh for the winning the gold medal and an additional Rs 15 Lakh for winning the silver medal in the Asian Games 2018 held in Jakarta. The CM also promised to sanction a house to her while lauding her achievement.
Speaking after felicitating the sports star, CM said, “Let this honour be an inspiration to all achievers in the state. The government is always ready to support the sports achievers.”
Reacting to the honour, M R Poovamma thanked the CM for bestowing the honour on her in a short span.
Women and Child Development Minister Jayamala, MP Naleen Kumar Kateel and MLC Kota Srinivas Pooary were present.
During his visit to the district today morning, a decision was taken in this regard after consulting Deputy Commissioner Sasikanth Senthil.
