Mangaluru: A total of 201 vehicles were seized in the Mangaluru Commissionarate limits on Thursday, April 9, for violating the lockdown guidelines.
Though the district administration had warned the public not to venture out of their homes after 12 pm, many people were found roaming the streets in their vehicles on Thursday. As per the direction of Mangaluru Commissioner of Police Dr P S Harsha, the police seized 201 vehicles from the violators.
While the district administration has allowed the public to go out and purchase groceries and other essentials between 7 am and 12 pm, they have banned the use of vehicles, except for those vehicles that have secured passes, healthcare workers, bank employees and media personnel.
The rest of the general public have been asked to either walk to their local grocery stores or order home delivery of the items from the supermarkets or other stores. The district administration had even warned that cases would be filed against those violating these orders, however, this has not stopped people from going out in their respective vehicles.
Although 201 seems like a lot, it is far less compared to Wednesday when the city police seized a total of 317 vehicles.
