Mangaluru: The CHD Group, Mangalore led by Dr. Edmond Fernandes has been invited to participate in the regional consultation of WHO-SEARO to be held in New Delhi. The conference will review global and regional developments in the areas of Emergency Response and Team Preparedness, adoption of regional EMT Governance Mechanism, and draft the discussion paper of EMT for the Regional Committee.

WHO-SEARO (World Health Organization – South East Asia Regional Office) is holding the regional consultation on strengthening emergency medical teams (EMTs) for South East Asia Region on June 5 and 6. More than 50 participants from across South East Asia have been invited for the conference including representatives from the ministry of health from 11 member states of the SEA region, non-governmental organizations, and those running EMTs in the region.

The sudden onset disasters cause extensive injuries to the affected people without any advance warning, making health systems vulnerable and damaging health facilities that go beyond national capacities. Mapping of emergency medical teams becomes vital in such scenarios.

CHD Group has been carrying out substantial work towards shaping health outcomes in humanitarian emergencies. It has also responded to emergencies in the past across India. Dr. Edmond Fernandes will represent CHD Group for this important regional consultation. Dr. Edmond is also a Member of the Health Task Force, District Disaster Management Authority of Government of Karnataka.
