Mangaluru: Dakshina Kannada district in-charge minister Kota Srinivas Poojary, in a late night announcement, informed that the Central Market will be closed to the public from Thursday, March 26 onwards.

Taking into account the surge of COVID-19 cases in the neighbouring district of Kasargod, the DK district administration has decided not to allow entry and purchase in the Central Market area. People can purchase necessary items from their nearby grocery shops between 6 AM and 12 PM.

Minister Poojary added that, though the public will not be allowed to purchase from the Central Market, retail shop owners can make purchases from here between 6 AM and 10 AM.

The Minister also said that social distancing has to be ensured by the vendors, failing which action will be taken. Meanwhile, the public have been advised to follow distancing measures to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
