Mangaluru: The Centre for Development Studies and Education (CEDSE), a civil society organisation launched a website on `Care Child Cancer` (CCC) at the Seminar Hall of School of Social Work, Roshni Nilaya on Wednesday, November 14.

This website was designed to spread awareness about the issue of childhood cancer and Care Child Cancer (CCC) service. The website also seeks to throw more light on the wider issue of non-communicable diseases (NCDs) which include physical, neurological and mental illnesses that are responsible for taking a heavy toll on the child, youth and adult lives.

Former MLA J R Lobo launched the website and lauded the efforts of CEDSE for its social service. “Any work should be done with utmost love and patience. Taking care of children who are suffering from cancer is a noble work. As the parents of such children go through a lot of trauma, it is very necessary to extend our helping hand to them. As the website intends to serve the cancer patients, we need support from everyone”, he said.

Informing about the website, Chief Coordinator of CEDSE Herald Moras said, “CCC was initiated with an aim of saving the precious lives of BPL household children from the life-threatening cancer. The service at present, is being done in association with three hospitals (Wenlock, Fr. Muller’s and KMC) in Mangaluru. The main components of the CCC service are regular follow up to ensure compliance by patients with the prescribed treatment cycles, financial support towards meeting costs incurred on items such as investigative procedures, certain medicines, travel, daily allowance, arranging blood, especially fresh blood during emergencies, counselling and psychological support for the affected children and caregivers among others”, he said.

CEDSE Director Dr. Rita Noronha, School of Social Work Principal Dr. Juliet CJ among others were present.
