Cattle traffickers try to mow down policemen at Shirthady, escape from spot

Moodabidri: Cattle traffickers tried to run over a cop at Padukonaje near Shirthady in Moodabidri on Thursday in a desperate bid to escape the police. However, the traffickers succeeded in giving a police a slip despite police firing in the air to stop them.

The cops have seized a Qualis vehicle and rescued seven cows. The incident occurred when Moodabidri Inspector Ramachanra Nayak and team were inspecting vehicles near Padukonaje, when the traffickers carrying cattle from Kashipatna tried to escape.

When the Inspector tried to waylay the Qualis carrying cattle, the driver of the Qualis tried to mow down the inspector. When the Inspector fired in the air, the perpetrators abandoned the vehicle and fled the scene.

The identity of the accused has not been ascertained.

Charges of attempt to murder, obstruction to police duty among others have been filed.
