Mangalore:Residents of Idya near Suratkal gheraoed the Suratkal police station on September 22, Sunday in protest against the inaction of the police in arresting the cattle thieves.
The protest was staged in the backdrop of the theft of a cow belonging to one Vasanthi Giriyappa of Idya the previous night. It is learnt, a complaint was lodged with the police at 4 am no sooner the inmates of the house came to know of the theft.
The agitators alleged that the police were apathetic in trapping cattle thieves which had led to several such cases of cattle thefts.
Ashok Shetty, local corporator, Satyajit Suratkal, leader of Hindu organization and others participated in the protest.
