Catholic Sabha’s first ever Sthree Sadhan Awards in Mangaluru on Mar 4

Mangaluru: A mega convention of Canara Catholic Women will be held on March 4 at St. Agnes Special School grounds, Bendoore. The mega convention is expected to witness over seven thousand women from Mangaluru and Udupi districts.

The convention has been organised by Catholic Sabha, Mangalore Pradesh, an organisation with a strong presence in coastal Karnataka for the past 39 years, to unite the women of the community and deliberate on the subject of their empowerment and bringing them to the mainstream to play a positive role in the society.

Addressing a press meet here on February 10 at Bishop’s house, President of Catholic Sabha Anil Lobo said, “The mega convention will be presided over by Rev. Dr. Aloysius Paul D’Souza. For the first time, the organisation will honour 10 women achievers of the society who have worked from the grassroot level in the fields of agriculture, business, health, social service, education, literature, sports, government service, professionals and specially abled persons. They will be conferred with the Catholic Sabha Sthree Sadhan Award 2018.”

NRI businessman Ronald Colaco, MLA J R Lobo, Legislative Council Chief Whip Ivan D’Souza, Bethany Congregation Assistant Superior General Sr. Lilly, Rev. Fr. J B Crasta, Michelle Queenie D’Costa, Assistant Commissioner Customs and Central Excise and M P Noronha will be the chief guests on the occasion.

The keynote address will be delivered by Veronica Cornelio, Secretary of Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee. “Sthreeyarigaagi Sarakara”, a book regarding government facilities for women and women’s rights will be released on the occasion.

A rally to create awareness among the people on environment protection and cleanliness will be held from Kadri Mallikatta to the venue at 8.30 AM by Pius L Rodrigues, member of Karnataka Pollution Control Board.

Catholic Sabha has over 30,000 members in more than 150 units in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts.

At the press meet, Janet D’Souza, All India Women’s Congress General Secretary and in-charge of Karnataka; Rita Noronha, well known social worker and professor of Roshni Nilaya, Spiritual Director Rev. Fr. Mathew Vas, General Secretary Celestine D’Souza, DCCW President Terry Pais and Convenor Sharel D’Souza were present.
