Candle Santhu murder case: Two get life imprisonment

Mangaluru: The Fourth Additional District and Sessions Court on Friday pronounced two persons guilty and sentenced them to life imprisonment in the sensational murder case of rowdy sheeter candle Santhosh alias Candle Santhu.

The convicts are Iqbal (39) resident of Kavoor and Farooq (30) resident of Karkala.

It may be recalled that Candle Santhu, a rowdy-sheeter and a right-wing activist was hacked to death in broad daylight in Badakabail, Polali in 2009.

The Bantwal Rural Police Inspector Nanje Gowda had filed a charge-sheet to the court accusing 22 individuals in connection to the murder. The court has acquitted 13 accused including Siddiq alias Munna, Mohammed Asif alias Asif, Sarfaraz, Mohammed Haris, Abdul Rehman, and Mansoor. Four accused died when the case was subjudice. Three accused are still at large.

The court has imposed a penalty of Rs 1 lakh on each of the guilty.
