Mangaluru: Finally, the cabinet has approved construction a full-fledged bus stand at Pumpwell and the construction work of the same is likely to start soon.
Paying a visit to the area where the new bus stand has been planned, MP and state BJP President Nalin Kumar Kateel informed that the full-fledged bus stand construction will cost about Rs 445 crore and will come upon a sprawling area of 7.23 acres of land provided by the Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC). The whole project will be taken up under smart city project, under PPP model.
Meanwhile, Nalin informed that many facilities like multi-level car parking, shopping malls and commercial/office spaces will come up on a 10 lakh sq ft area. After finishing the construction work, contractors of the project should maintain the bus stand for the next 40 years and later it should be handed over to the MCC, he informed.
Shifting of private bus stand from State Bank area to Pumpwell was planned nearly a decade ago, but, it could not be materialised owing to many issues like land acquisition, shortage of space among others. Once the project is completed, the congestion of vehicle in the heart of the city will decline and there would not be an interruption in the movement of vehicles, he said.
