Mangaluru: After his act of digging burial pit for a COVID-19 victim evoked a mixed response, MLA U T Khader has clarified that he did so only to get rid of the stigma attached to the COVID-19.
It may be recalled that the four-time MLA and former minister had dug a pit for the burial of a 70-year-old COVID-19 victim on Tuesday at a Masjid in Bolar. Since the MLA was seen wearing only a mask, while the rest of the frontline health workers were wearing the personal protection gear, many attacked the MLA.
As per the guidelines one should not take part in any such procedures without wearing the protection gears. As Khader had violated the guidelines, many questioned his move.
The MLA convened a press conference in the city on Wednesday and said that he was trying to educate the people about the need to treat COVID patients and victims with dignity.
“The doctors have said that the dead body of a COVID patient will not cause the virus to spread. There were several instances where people have hesitated to participate in the final rites of COVID victims. With my act, I wanted to send out a strong message,” Khader said.
