Mangaluru: ‘Man with a Mission’, a biography of Joseph Crasta, the founder and executive Director of Snehalaya, a lay missionary, written and complied by Geo D Silva & Swarup V Amin jointly was released on February 10 by the Bishop of Mangaluru, Most Rev. Dr. Peter Paul Saldanha in a simple meaningful ceremony held at the Bishops House Kodialbail Mangaluru.
The author Geo D Silva, welcomed the dignitaries and presented the keynote. “A lay person, from extremely ordinary social background was chosen by God to be his instrument who has sacrificed all worldly luxuries and dedicated his life for the down trodden, the last and lost brethren. His missionary work, his life and challenges are documented in the book,” he said.
The Bishop of Mangaluru Most Rev Dr. Peter Paul Saldanha said that it was a great joy to release the book. He said, “we need not engrave our names on marble but in the hearts of people. This requires sacrifices and love. Joseph is following the footsteps of Mother Theresa and may his works be continued.”
The Bishop also mentioned that he had an opportunity to go through the contents of the book, and found it to be excellently narrated. The Bishop honoured Josephs presence by offering him a Shawl.
Roy Castelino, The Public Relation Officer of the Mangaluru diocese Guest of Honor, at the function said that Josephs work cannot be documented because each minute he does something new. “At the age of 50 writing a biography may be too early but the authors need to continue many successive parts of the Biography because Joseph does hundreds of activities. He is a chosen one and I am also inspired by his works,” he said.
Mrs. Felcy Lobo, a writer, poet and by profession a teacher at St Aloysius High school Mangaluru spoke on the book and in particular said that the content is an inspiration for the future generation. Her flawless narration and the poetic style of presenting the content of the book was impressive.
Swarup Amin was felicitated during the event for the book, which was his first literary work. Shri Rafiq Master, a renowned social worker and staunch supporter of Snehalaya for the past one decade, compared the program.
Joseph Crasta, thanked the dignitaries and the writers. He expressed special thanks to the authors who have taken the pain of picking a lot of information and translated it into a document.
All the invitees, writers and the guests were presented with a memento as a token of remembrance.
The Book is published by Snehalaya Charitable Trust. It contains 20 valuable articles and photo albums.
