BJP corporators boycott MCC development committee meeting

Mangaluru: To review the progress of the developmental works of Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC), a development committee meeting was held at the MCC office on Monday, November 19. However, BJP corporators boycotted the meeting citing the reason that the MLAs of both Mangaluru South and North constituency were intentionally not invited to the meeting.

Addressing the reporters at BJP office, opposition party leader Premananda Shetty said, “The MCC mayor has intentionally not invited the BJP MLAs to the development committee meeting. Among the 60 wards of MCC, 38 wards fall under the constituency of Mangaluru South Constituency and 22 wards come under Mangaluru North constituency. If the meeting is held in the presence of MLAs, constructive discussions will be held and it is easy to handle the works.”

Shetty also informed that the development committee meeting at MCC was initiated in the year 2008 and it was a tradition to invite local MLAs. “However, the ruling Congress avoided MLAs at the meeting in order to hide their mistakes,” he alleged.

Meanwhile, Shetty expressed his displeasure over the move of District In-charge Minister U T Khader for “not convening a single meeting over the developmental works of MCC.”

“The district in-charge minister needs to conduct a meeting at least once in a month in MCC in order to speed up the developmental works being undertaken using government funds,” he said.

BJP corporators Ganesh Hosabettu and Sudhir Shetty Kannur were present.
