Bishop to start host of green initiatives In Mangalore Diocese

Mangaluru: Pope Francis appealed to the world through his encyclical “Laudato si “that we must work together to protect our common home the Earth.

Following the green path, the diocese of Mangalore, with its new Bishop Most Rev Dr Peter Paul Saldanha will organise a campaign, in remembrance of his Episcopal Ordination “Laudato Si – Nature Protection is my Responsibility” in all Parishes Chapel, religious houses of Men and Women, Educational Institutions and other institutions of the diocese on November 25. This Campaign will be executed in three levels.

The first level is Sunday Liturgy/prayers and planting of the saplings given by the bishop in each Parish, Chapel, religious house for men and women, educational institutions and other institutions, on Sunday, November 25. The Bishop has already given a teak wood sapling which will be planted according to the instructions given by the committee.

Msgr Maxim Noronha Vicar General of Mangalore diocese will plant a sapling at Vorkady Parish, Kasargod district, Fr Victor Vijay Lobo Procurator and PRO of Mangalore Diocese will plant a sapling in Kokkada Parish.

The Bishop has already inaugurated this Campaign on his Episcopal Ordination day on 15 September 2018 by planting a coconut sapling at Rosario Cathedral Mangalore.

Slogan writing competitions on Nature protection – My responsibility. The slogans can be written in Kannada, English Konkani and Tulu on the above theme. Best Slogan in Each language will be rewarded with a prize. These slogans will be displayed in prominent places.

A pledge campaign: Nature Protection is My Responsibility. A pledge will be taken by the individuals with the signature to affirm their willingness to protect the earth in Parishes Chapel, Religious houses of Men and Women, Educational Institutions and other institutions of the diocese. The aim is to reach out at least 200000 people who commit themselves to the care of common home, the mother earth.

There will be a lucky draw on 26 January 2019, the winner will be awarded one sovereign gold coin.

Laudato Si Committee is formed by the bishop to monitor the whole campaign.
