Mangaluru: To mark the centenary year of St Agnes College, Bishop of Mangalore Diocese Aloysius Paul D’Souza laid foundation stone for the construction of Mother Mary Aloysia AC Centenary Memorial Block here on Wednesday, August 15. St Agnes College will complete 100 years of its existence on 2020-21.
Addressing the gathering, the Bishop said, “St Agnes college, which was started 100 years ago, has provided education to several students and shaped them into successful individuals. The college not only imparts academic education, but also arms students with values and discipline.”
“Our education should be intellectually creative, academically competent, psychologically balanced, ethically driven, morally integral, spiritually deep, physically fit and socially committed. The education should transform students into good people and leaders for the society” the Bishop added.
N Vinaya Hegde, Chancellor of Nitte Deemed University, said Dakshina Kannada could become the greatest destination for education because of the contributions of institutions like St Agnes and St Aloysius in delivering quality education. He also mentioned that his daughter too had the privilege to do her initial studies in this institution.
“The most important part in the education is to look after the students with compassion, love and allow them to improve and teach them to understand and respect people.”
He also stated that in the coming days St Agnes Institution will be recognized as a great institution at the international level.
MP Nalin Kumar Kateel who was present at the programme promised to provide Rs 10 Lakhs for the building through CSR fund.
