Mangaluru: The Billava Brigade Mangaluru will hold a bike rally from the Kudroli temple to the Mangaluru International Airport on December 7 to demand that the airport be renamed after the legendary Tuluvas twins Koti-Chennaya, informed Billava Brigade founder-president Avinash Suvarna.
He was addressing the media at a press meet on December 1.
It can be recalled that the during a general body meeting of the Dakshina Kannada Zilla Panchayat on January 20, 2019, a resolution to rename MIA after Koti Chennaya was adopted. The resolution was sent to the state government and a proposal in this regard is still pending with the departments concerned in the Vidhana Soudha.
Avinash Suvarna informed that the MLAs and district minister in-charge Kota Srinivas Poojary have been urged to take the necessary action to rename the airport.
“According to protocol, the proposal to recommend the renaming of the airport should go through the Gram Panchayat, Zilla Panchayat and then to the state government, which will int turn forward the same to the Central government. However, it looks like the process has still not been completed. We are therfore planning to hold a bike rally on December 7 to put pressure on the concerned authorities to rename the airport,” he said.
He then informed that other organizations like the Koti Chennaya Sanchalana Samiti and Brahmasri Narayana Guru Dharma Paripalana Sangh will join hands with the Billava Brigade in their demand.
Speaking during the presser, Billava Brigade member Sathajit Surathkal said that it is the government’s responsibility to remove the Adani Group name from the MIA welcome board and the premises.
Brigade members like Jeevan Poojary Prakash Sanil, Suraj Kalya, and Ashwath Uppala were present.
