Mangalore : There has been a new twist to a suspected case of hit and run reported from Suratkal on May 14, Tuesday night wherein the pillion rider lost his life.
Reports now suggest that it was not a hit-and run case but a deliberate attempt to kill the bike rider, a civil lawyer who however is now in a critical state and is undergoing treatment in the ICU of a private hospital in Mangalore.
The incident had taken place on Tuesday night when the lawyer Gangadhar Karkera(50) who is also a prominent Congress leader as well as a leader of the Mogaveera community was on way home from his office. Though usually he used to be accompanied by his friend Mohanchandra, on that fateful day another acquaintance Basavaraj was with him. As the bike reached Kordabbu Daivasthana, a speeding pick-up van knocked down the bike riders. If Basavaraj who was critically injured died in the hospital, Karkera is now in the ICU of a hospital.
The exact motive behind the suspected murder bid is not known. Thorough investigations may bring facts to light.
