Mangaluru: MLA JR Lobo has urged the police department to make sure that the perpetrators in recent Bengre violence were brought to books at the earliest and dealt with in a stern manner.
In a press meet on Thursday, February 22, Lobo said that the police department now needs to be all the more alert so that such incidents do not occur in future.
It may be recalled that people returning from Fishermen Convention in Malpe were attacked at Bengre in Mangalore, late on Tuesday night. In the melee several people sustained severe injuries.
He said that four buses had passed the area without trouble, while the fifth bus was targeted by the miscreants. Some say that the people shouted slogans in the bus, which raged some locals. However, timely intervention by local leaders prevented the incident from snowballing into a crisis, but however, around 2.30 am miscreants tried to further rake up the issue by pelting stones at Thota Bengre Masjid, he said.
“I have been hurt emotionally by this incident. Thota Bengre and Kasaba Bengre have been relatively peaceful pockets of the region, but now attempts are being made to disrupt peace here. Police will take stringent action against those perpetrators”. he added.
TK Sudhir, AC Vinayaraj, Mohan Mendon and others were present.
