Mangaluru: The Bantwal police, on Monday, January 6, arrested a person employed in a foreign country on charges of issuing death threats to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
The arrested accused has been identified as Anwar, a resident of Peruvai. According to police sources, the accused has been posting messages against the implementation of the Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA) and National Register of Citizens (NRC) online.
It is also alleged that he was spreading messages provoking people to indulge in communal violence. A few days ago, an audio clipping where two persons are heard threatening a person from Vamanjoor, who was also working abroad, forcing him to object to the CAA and NRC on Facebook, went viral. The two can be heard saying that if the Muslims are forced to leave India, they will murder all RSS activists and leaders of the BJP, including the PM and Home Minister. It is said that the voices belong to Anwar and his friend Niyaz, both residents of Peruvayi in Vittal, and that they were threatening someone from the Hindu community.
A complaint was registered at the Vittal police station by one Yathish in this regard. As the police were tipped off about Anwar’s visit to his hometown on Monday, January 6, Bantwal Circle Inspector T D Nagaraj and Vittal sub-inspector Vinod arrested him. However, Niyaz is yet to be arrested.
