Bantwal: The irked local residents staged a huge protest demanding lifting of the sealdown that had been clamped on the region following repeated corona positives cases here, on Thursday.
Bantwal Pete area has been under lockdown from April 19 after six from this area were tested positive and three fatalities were reported here due to COVID-19.
Entire Bantwal taluk has reported nine cases so far and six of the total cases came from Bantwal Pete and a strict sealdown order was imposed here.
The locals say that the sealdown has been unscientific and even demarcation of the containment zone and the buffer zone has been done in an unscientific manner.
The lockdown period has reached 33 days, which is unacceptable too. The protesters, led by Town Municipal Council A Govind Prabhu, blocked the road near the Community Health Centre.
Bantwal MLA Harish Poonja said that he has already discussed the issue with Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa and on Thursday the issue has been brought to the notice of DCM Ashwath Narayan, who has in turn had a talk with Deputy Commissioner.
Former minster Ramanath Rai has urged the administration to put an end to the confusion.
However, sources in the district admnistration said that lockdown in Bantwal Pete is inevitable as more cases were anticipated from there and hence lifting the lockdown is not advisable.
