Bengaluru: Balipa Narayana Bhagavatha, a well-known Yakshagana playback singer has been selected for the coveted Parthisubba Award of the Karnataka Yakshagana Bayalata Academy. Meanwhile, his Yakshagana Prasanga book “Jayalakshmi” has also been selected for the book award.
Five other Yakshagana artistes like Yallapura Shankara Bhagavatha, Keshava Bhat of Ira village in Bantwal Taluk, D Sridhar Hande of Kota, A M Shivashankaraiah of Aralaguppe in Tiptur and Kariyanna of Rajajinagar were also selected for the honorary awards.
Addressing the reporters here on September 17, Karnataka Yakshagana Bayalata Academy President Prof. M A Hegde said Parthisubba Award comprises a cash prize of Rs 1 Lakh and book award Rs 25,000. The honorary award comes with a cash award of Rs 50,000, a memento and citation. The awarding ceremony will be held at Udupi during the end of September or first week of October, he said.
