Attitude matters when finding solutions to challenges: Ratan Watal

Mangaluru: Delegates of the NITI Aayog, the policy think tank of the government of India, accompanied by the Registrar of Mangalore University visited Sahyadri College of Engineering and Management.

The Principal adviser (Social Sector) to the NITI Aayog and member secretary of Economic Advisory Council to Prime Minister (EAC-PM) Ratan P Watal, senior consultant for EAC-PM and NITI Aayog B N Satpathy, Representative of NITI Aayog K Rajeshwar Rao, Registrar of Mangalore University Prof. B S Nagendra Prakash, and Dr. B H Shekar interacted with the management and faculty.

Ratan P Watal, a retired IAS officer of Andhra Pradesh cadre and former finance secretary, shared a glimpse of the working of the main office NITI Aayog, responsibilities of the chairperson, its members, the functions and the role of the Aayog.

Watal said that one’s attitude determines whether a challenge could be overcome. So, banking institutions, academic institutions should identify the challenges for establishing a cashless economy at the grassroots level and devise solutions for overcoming them. He urged people to experience the sense of accomplishment by helping the downtrodden in the society.

B N Satpathy said that we live in times of uncertainty and everyone should be always alert. Though the job market was tougher these days, he said, there was enough scope for innovative ideas to shine. He appreciated Sahyadri College for its unique initiatives for fostering the spirit of innovation in students.

Prof. B S Nagendra Prakash recollected his association with director- research and consultancy at Sahyadri College Dr. Manjappa Sarathi and appreciated the management of Sahyadri for its in-house mechanism for developing individuality in thinking. Very few institutions do so, he said.

Prof Prakash opined that collaboration between Mangalore University and Sahyadri College under the mentorship of NITI Aayog can deliver results that benefit the society. He also expressed his support for forming the state-of-the-art research facility in Sahyadri Campus to strengthen research capabilities at the campus.

Chairman of Sahyadri College Manjunath Bhandary motivated the staff to heed the advice of the guests and learn from their experience.
