Udupi : If an attempt to disrupt peace by placing severed limb of a cattle on a Tulasikatte of a house at Someshwar Uchil took place on May 9, in yet another attempt, a mosque at Polipu in Kaup was stoned by some miscreants . The glass panes of the minaret of the mosque were damaged in the stoning.
The Maulvi of the mosque and some others were inside when stones were hurled at the mosque. The Local police were informed and senior police officials including Karkala DySP Devaraju and Kaup Circle Inspector Shivananda Valekar rushed to the spot and ensured peace in the area.
There are also reports that large crowds gathered in front of the mosque in the morning on hearing about the incident.
Newly elect MLA of Kaup Vinaykumar Sorake also visited the mosque and urged the police to arrest the culprits at the earliest. He also stated that systematic attempts were underway to disrupt peace. He also pointed out to an incident that was reported at Uchila mosque on the election day wherein some miscreants had hurled beer bottle at the mosque.
Investigations are underway.
