Mangaluru: The Mangaluru South Sub-division Anti Rowdy Squad foiled a bid to burgle a jewelry shop at Carstreet and arrested 11 persons recently.
The arrested have been identified as Shekh Mohammed Ansar alias Ansar (34), Rameez alias Rameez K C Road (21), Mohammed Thouseef alias Thacchu (24), Mohammed Thouseef alias Thouseef (25), Ubedulla (25), Mohammed Ali (25), Ahmed Kabeer (30), Asgar Ali alias Asgar alias Acchu (27), Sabith (19), Mohammed Sabad alias Sawad (22) and Ameer Ali alias Ameer (19). Among the accused, most of them have pending cases pertaining to murder, attempt to murder, robbery, assault among others.
Sources from Anti Rowdy Squad informed that a group of miscreants had gathered at Mangaluru Hills road near Pachanady and were hatching a plan to loot a jewelry shop, owned by Santhosh. Following a tip-off, the Anti Rowdy Squad rushed to Pachanady and found a group of youth discussing with each other suspiciously. When police questioned them, they failed to answer properly but later spilled the beans regarding planning to burgle ‘Vaishnavi Jewellery.` Police also seized two cars, two motorcycles, iron rod, knife, four fake number plates and cash of Rs 16,050 from their possession. The worth of the seized property estimated around Rs 3,66050.
It can be recalled that another separate team had planned to rob the money of `Vaishnavi Jewellery Shop` owned by Santhosh, Around 20 days ago, the police succeeded in arresting the team. However, four more members of the gang are yet to be arrested.
The accused would be produced before the court, police sources said.
