Assault against Ashraf Salettur: Compol suspends ASI

Mangaluru: Pertaining to the issue of assault on a person, who allegedly posted an insulting statement in social media, Mangaluru Commissioner of Police T R Suresh suspended Chandrashekhar, ASI of Bunder police station on Tuesday.

Sources from city police informed that ASI Chandrashekhar had arrested one Ashraf Salettur as the latter had allegedly posted a statement on social media that Lord Parashuram was responsible for floods in TamilNadu and also about Sabarimala issue. The post and the comment had created a lot of debate and many had urged Ashraf Salethur to refrain from making such comments as it would disturb communal harmony.

Based on Ashraf’s statement on social media, Mangaluru North police booked a suo-moto case against Ashraf on August 22 and arrested him. Meanwhile, Democratic Youth Federation of India state president Muneer Katipalla questioned the move of police and approached Commissioner of Police T R Suresh to take the issue seriously.

Following the complaint, T R Suresh conducted an internal inquiry and found ASI Chandrashekhar guilty and suspended him.
