Mangaluru: As Union Home Minister Amit Shah announced the government's proposal to revoke Article 370 and Article 35A of the Indian Constitution, which provided 'special status' to the state, the leaders of BJP and fringe group activists celebrated it in a grand way in the city, on Monday, August 5.
The celebration was held in different areas like Suratkal, Mallikatta Circle and PVS Circle, wherein leaders and activists shouted out slogans in favour of union government for its historic decision.
After the celebration Sharan Pumpwell, district secretary of Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP), addressing the gathering said that the decision of revoking Article 370 has made justice to the sacrifice of the soldiers. "Thousands of soldiers had laid their lives down for maintaining peace in Kashmir. As the government has now revoked Article 370 from Kashmir, justice has been rendered to the martyrs. We would extend our complete support to the union government for its remarkable decision", Sharan added.
Former MLC Monappa Bhandary, after celebrating near BJP office said, "The Congress government was not ready to revoke Article 370 so far as it was intended to gain the support of Muslims who are living in different parts of the country. After this historic decision, there would not be any obstacle to take any developmental works in both Jammu and Kashmir", he said.
Mangaluru North MLA Dr Y Bharath Shetty expressed his pleasure over the decision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah. " Due to this historic decision, the violence in Jammu Kashmir would completely stop in future. Now, anybody can go and live in Kashmir and anybody can buy land in Kashmir. We can proudly hoist our flag in Kashmir now", he said.
Activists burst crackers and disbursed sweets.
