Mangaluru: A book `Your Prime Minister is Dead` penned by former journalist Anuj Dhar on the suspicious death of former prime minister Lal Bahadur Shastri was released during the inaugural day of `Mangaluru Lit Fest – 2018` at TMA Pai International Centre on Saturday, November 3.

Former MLC Captain Ganesh Karnik released the book and opined that though the book was released four decades after the death of Lal Bahadur Shastri, it would definitely trigger some controversy as there must be something behind the Shastri’s death of Shastri. “Shastri was such a great person that if he was the prime minister of India during the war between India and China in the year 1962, India could have taught a befitting lesson to China. Shastri had given utmost prominence to both soldiers and farmers through his famous slogan `Jai Jawan Jai Kisan`,” he said.

Anuj Dhar, the author of the book shared many more issues which prevented him from getting precise documents pertaining to the suspicious death of Shastri. “Though the Russian government was suspicious about Lal Bahadur Shastri’s death, the then Indian government did not utter a single word on the same. Former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee first raised the issue in the parliament and urged for an investigation. However, no such effort was made by the government and it is very sad that post-mortem too was not conducted”, he said.

“When Shastri’s body was brought to India, even his family members were not allowed to take a look. They were prevented from going very close to his body, which was again a suspicious move by the union government. When Shastri’s wife Lalita Shastri saw her husband’s body, it was bloated and it bore strange cut marks. As the family members raised doubts, suddenly sandal paste was smeared on Lal Bahadur Shastri’s face”, he said.

There were no reliable documents to understand Shastri’s death. Though some information was sought through RTI, the government refused to provide the same claiming that it won’t share any information in public as it involved nation’s security. However, the move of the then government itself shows that there was something fishy behind Shastri’s death”, he said.
