Moodbidri: Students of the reputed Alva’s College in Moodabidri have stirred a controversy by celebrating the end of PUC examination in a distasteful manner out on streets. Meanwhile, it is also said that a bunch of students were bashed up by hostel warden and college staff in a separate incident for resorting to celebrations inside the hostel.
Students of the said college reportedly expressed their happiness by tearing away their books soon after boarding the college bus on Mahaveera college (examination centre) campus after completing the crucial examination, on Saturday. The paper pieces were all littered on the road by the students as mark of happiness, which did not auger well with the locals who instantly waylaid the bus and took students to task. The locals pulled up the students to even clear the mess that they had created.
However, later in the day the news of hostel Warden and college staff hitting the students in the hostel made rounds. This incident, which allegedly left 20 students injured had even driven students to stage a stir in the hostel, said sources. While some said that students had raised objection over the food served in the hostel, many others say that it was a repercussion of the celebration that students did on road.
Speaking to newskarnataka, Institution Public Relation Officer said that a group of students were found misbehaving in the hostel by pelting stones, shouting and even bursting crackers inside the hostel and since the students were in no mood to listen to the authorities concerned, the warden resorted to the extreme means to discipline them.
“It was unintentional and the issue has been sorted out, ” said the PRO adding that the management had also taken steps to clean the streets that were dirtied by the students.
The institution faced such allegations even in the past. It may be recalled that when a student named Kavyashree from this institute was found dead under mysterious circumstance, bringing the management under scanner, many had come out in open to speak about the dictatorial manner and high handedness of the management.
