All poll related ads should be brought before MCMC before publishing

Mangalore: Deputy Commissioner Harsh Gupta has said that  legal action will follow against any person who fails to  bring to the notice of the Media Certification and Monitoring Committee before issuing advertisement to the media regarding elections.

Addressing pres persons at the District Information Office on April 7, Sunday, the DC sought the co-operation of the media  in the conduct of free, fair and transparent polls he said the committee formed to keep an eye on the media with regard to poll related news,  will be on constant watch.



The Media Control Centre set up at the Information Department building will function round the clock, he said and added the staff of the centre will be constantly watching election related programmes aired by  various channels. Stern action will follow against any media which  is publishing or airing news glorifying any candidate or political party.

The DC also informed that Android enabled smart phones will be distributed to officials on election related duty,  The mobile phones enabled with a mobile election management technology will help the officials to upload images or reports that violate poll code of conduct  to the websites concerned so that the Commission can initiate immediate action.

Already 35 smart phones have been distributed and 160 more officials will be provided smart phones.

The DC once again informed that the public can lodge any poll code violation related complaints by calling 1077 helpline set up by the district administration. On the SVEEP programmes, the DC said so far 18000 applications for inclusion of names in voters list havebeen  received  and added the names of 2000 persons have been removed from the list.
