Mangaluru: Many of the airlines operating flights between Mangaluru and Bengaluru have hiked fares following the disconnection of two major National Highways and train connectivity in Dakshina Kannada due to heavy rains.
As there is a huge demand for the tickets, the nominal fare from Mangaluru-Bengaluru, which is usually priced between Rs 2,500 to 3,500, has been increased to Rs 12,000.
Heavy rain over the last several days has battered the district, leaving the Shiradi Ghat, which is the prominent road connectivity between Mangaluru-Bengaluru, shut due to landslide at various spots along the ghats. The same condition prevailed along the National Highway connecting Mani and Mysuru.
The railway connectivity between Mangaluru-Bengaluru too has come to a halt after a landslide at Yeddakumeri. The other route for commuters- Charmadi too has become an inconvenient option owing to heavy traffic.
There are over 10 airline companies providing connectivity between Mangaluru and Bengaluru and all have reportedly gone in for a price hike.
