Mangaluru: St Aloysius Institute of Management & Information Technology (AIMIT) added a new feather to its cap as it received the prestigious National Dewang Mehta award for the ‘Best Information Technology syllabus”. The award ceremony was held at the Taj Lands End in Mumbai on Saturday, November 28.
Speaking to News Karnataka, Director of AIMIT, Fr Denzil Lobo SJ said that it is a matter of pride for the college and the city itself to have been selected for such a prestigious award. “We believe in walking with the current trends and times and hence we ensure that our syllabus is upgraded every two years. Being an autonomous college is what has helped us in maintaining this system”, he said and added the choice based credit system that has been introduced in various colleges recently has been used in the college for a few years increasing the standard of education in the college.
Professor Santhosh Rebello, Dean Information Technology and Bio Informatics, AIMIT who represented the college and received the award in Mumbai, informed that a panel of 40 jury members was involved in selecting the award winners.
Speaking about the factors that have led to the selection for the award, he said that the criteria included thorough evaluation of the syllabi, projects that have been undertaken by the college and latest technologies that are being used by the IT department like Big Data Analytics, cloud computing, social media analytics, augmented reality and many more. He also added that student feedback was also very essential in the selection process.
On being asked to comment on achieving this milestone, he said, “It is a blissful feeling and we are very happy but we have a long way to go from here. There is a lot more to be achieved. Currently, we are one of the only institutes working hand in hand with NASSCOM and also Make in India Project. It is such work that is building the foundation of the college.”
“This award is dedicated to the efforts of a dedicated management of AIMIT, the ever supportive faculty and the students, both old students and the current batches. It is all a collective effort”, he added.
The award has certainly brought the coastal city into limelight for its high standard of education among hundreds of institutions all across India.
