Mangaluru: District In-charge Minister B Ramanath Rai, on December 9, announced that well-known film actor Prakash Rai/Raj would be taking part in the “Samarasya Nadige Sauhardatheyedege”, a harmony walk from Farangipete to Mani, scheduled on December 12.

Addressing a press meet at the Mini Town Hall, Rai said, “CPI(M) leader Shriram Reddy, CPI leader Siddanna Gowda Patil and Congress leader Dr L Hanumanthayya will also take part in this event.”

He explained that the walkathon had been organised to show solidarity towards communal harmony and secularism. He also added that any secular party and organisation, except the anti-social forces, could take part in this rally. “Various parties will join this rally to uphold the secular credentials and harmony in the district. During the elections, we may differ in our political ideologies and work for various parties but when it comes to secularism and harmony, we are united”, Rai stated.

He also said that a simple inauguration ceremony would be conducted by releasing doves. The valedictory programme will be held at Mani at 5.00 PM. The stage is named after “Navooru Harish Poojary”, an innocent who was murdered by communal forces.

“Prior to this walkathon, we have already conducted meetings in Puttur, Sullia, Bantwal, Belthangady, Farangipete and Mani”, he added.

State Minister U T Khader, CPI(M) leader Vasanth Acharya and others were present during the press meet.
