Mangaluru: In the fallout of the announcement of the state budget, the student wing of the BJP, the ABVP took out a protest in front of the DC’s office here on Friday, July 6.
They said that they had expected a lot from the state budget but felt let down as the education sector was completely ignored. “The poor, backward and talented students of the state have been ignored by the budget,” the protesters said. They also added that there was a failure in providing bus passes to these students, upgradation of the SC/ST students’ hostels and filling the vacant teachers’ posts.
The situation escalated and became tense when some of the students jumped the barricades that were installed and gheraoed a police jeep while protesting.
An ABVP member was also detained by police for ignoring their instructions to clear the area. The situation soon diffused and the student was released.
