Mangaluru: Medical Ventilator was the last resort to support and save a life at the crucial juncture of life and death. This was the situation that was commonly observed in the coastal city. When rest of the cities in the country had upgraded to Hi-Tech Bypass Machine, ECMO (Extra-Corporeal Membrane Oxygenation) facility was absent in Mangaluru.
For the first time in the coastal city, A J Hospital and Research Centre introduces the state of the art life support system “ECMO”.
ECMO is said to support the organs when ventilator fails to do so. This life support system comes handy in bridging heart-lung transplant, lung failure, snake bite/poisoning treatment, major trauma, heart attack and other treatments requiring mechanical support.
The machine will also come in help in terms of treatment of children treatment, MICU (Medical Intensive Care Unit), PICU (Pediatric Intensive Care Unit) and CCU (Coronary Care Unit).
Regarding the Heart-Lung Transplant, the technology is just one step away, in Coastal Karnataka.
