5K run ‘Healthy Mangaluru’ held to raise awareness about healthy living

Mangaluru: A 5-km run called “Healthy Mangaluru” was held in the city on October 15 morning. It was an initiative by Additional Director General of Police, Karnataka State Reserve Police, Bengaluru, Alok Kumar IPS and organized by B M Prasad- Commandant at 7th Battalion KSRP of DK. The aim of the run was to spread awareness about COVID-10 and to encourage people to live healthy lives by exercising, dieting etc.

The run began at 7 AM from the Mangala Stadium and culminating back at the same place.

Over 250 police personnel from the 7th battalion of the Karnataka State Reserve Police-DK, Mangaluru City Police and Dakshina Kannada Police participated in the run that was flagged off by ADGP Alok Kumar.

The route of the run went from Mangala Stadium via Mannagudda, Kudroli, Dongerekere, PVS Circle, M G Road, Lady Hill, and back to the stadium. Mangaluru Police Commissioner Vikash Kumar, DK Superintendent B MLaxmi Prasad, IGP Western Range Seemanth Kumar Singh, MRPL General Manager Krishna Hegde, and DGM of ONGC Muralidharan also participated in the run. Family members of the police personnel and members of the public also participated.

Before the run, participants held placards that read, “Health is wealth”, “If health is lost, everything is lost”, “A healthy body holds a healthy soul”, “Quit drugs-choose life. Drugs are a death trap” etc.

Later, each of the participants received a medal and a certificate.

Speaking on the occasion, Alok Kumar said, “You should get involved in sports, do exercises and follow a healthy diet in order to remain fit and healthy. It will be good for your family also if you are healthy and fit. Covid-19 is not the only risk to your life. There are other illness like diabetes, cancer etc. which can kill you. Therefore taking care of your health is very important.”

Speaking about why he decided to conduct the run, he said, “In Bengaluru, many health awareness events were organized. So, I asked why not have a ‘Healthy Mangaluru’ event to create awareness among the public on health and life. Death can come at any time, therefore it is important to take precautions regarding your health. Take a pledge to exercise, eat healthy, play sports, and live a good and healthy life.”

Commandant of 7th Battalion of KSRP of DK B M Prasad delivered the vote of thanks and Physical Director Thyagam Harekala compered the programme.
